my concern over the horse cloning

To Board of Directors of the Arabian Horse Association,

As an Arabian horse owner and committed custodian of our historic breed, I wish to express my concern over the horse cloning that has occurred and may continue into the future.

For hundreds of years the Arabian horse has been a prized possession. Whether the property of and family to desert Bedouins or watched with wonder in a backyard pasture, our proud breed has proven themselves invaluable. Arabians have been carefully tended, meticulously appraised and bred with a desire to retain the qualities of the breeders that came before us, but, with one eye to the future.

Our time is now. The choices we make will be just a small spoke in the wheel to those who seek to understand our intentions in the decades to come.

By allowing breeders to use cloning, for any reason, is in essence, a slap in the face to everyone who looked at two pedigrees and bred their horse with a bright future the eventual goal.

Now it is my understanding that you, the BOD, the highest authority regulating our breed, has entertained the thought of allowing cloning. You are the people entrusted to do what is best for our horses. The shame and future repercussions will fall not just on your shoulders. Do you understand that every Arabian horse owner will be forced to carry some burden, because of decisions you have made?

Please look within yourselves and take a mental assessment of what you can live with. Then look at the list of owners and breeders you represent. From all accounts I see a major exodus if this cloning discussion continues.
